Bonnie Yates, age 84 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 10:00 pm on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tom Quimby officiating.

Bonnie was of the Baptist faith.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of 68 years, George Yates; daughters, Kathy Johnson and husband Paul and Sheila Johnston and husband Dwayne; son, Jerry Yates and wife Rhonda; grandchildren, Jennifer Travis (Ryan), Brent Johnson (Lauren), Kaylee Johnston (Sara), Natalie Barna (Brik), Brenden Mohr (Melissa), and Katelyn May (Alex); great grandchildren, Brayden Travis, Brooklyn Travis, Briley Travis, Lyric Johnson, Landry Johnson, Trinton Stanley, Kali Stanley, Ciara Finch, Jax Mohr, and Beckett May; great great granddaughter, Oakley Queen; sister, Lisa “Cam” Sternberg; brothers, Gerald Tanner, Rick Tanner, Chris Tanner, and Steve Tanner; several nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Lorene (Lifsey) Tanner; daughter, Deena Kay Yates; brother, Arnell Gene Tanner; special uncle, Bill Tanner.

Memorials may be made in Bonnie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
