Bobbie S. Wetherington, of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away on May 24, 2016 at her home in Metropolis. Bobbie, the daughter of Henry Marvin and Josie Irene Nunley Holley, was born on June 9, 1934 with her twin sister Betty Hickman in Fairdealing, Kentucky. Bobbie was united in marriage to Joe Wetherington on October 22, 1950 in Genoa, Illinois. Prior to her husband's death, in September of 1986, the couple had celebrated 36 years of marriage.
Mrs. Wetherington was a member of the Metropolis Church of Christ. Prior to health issues, Bobbie attended church faithfully. She believed in and loved her Lord Jesus Christ with all of her heart.
Mrs. Wetherington's survivors include her daughter, Nancy Shetler and husband Mark; her son, Keith Wetherington and wife Tonya; and her daughter, Beth Crowe and husband Clark. "Maw" is also survived by seven grandchildren, David Shetler and wife Kaitlin; Kristen Brugger and husband Jeff; Blake Wetherington and girlfriend Leanne Parrish; Ashley Shetler, Allison Dublin and husband Jordyn; Brandon Crowe and wife Kaitlyn, and Austin Wetherington. "Maw" is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Emma Claire Brugger, Gavin Allen Brugger, Hunter Axel "Reed" Brugger, Knox Matthew Wetherington, Felicity Quinn Crowe, and Hannah Jean Shetler. Bobbie is survived by her twin sister Betty Hickman and husband Clayton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wetherington was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Josie Holley; her husband, Joe Wetherington; her sisters, Novella Holley Wetherington, Kathryn Holley Willie, and Louise Holley Nunley, and her daughter-in-law, Vickie Wetherington.
A family graveside service was held at Metropolis Memorial Gardens on Friday, May 27th with Pastor Tom Emmerson of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Metropolis, Illinois officiating. Several of "Maw's" favorite hymns were sung by the family. As the service concluded, balloons were released by "Maw's" grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jeff Brugger, Brandon Crowe, Clark Crowe, Jordyn Dublin, Tom Emmerson, Mark Shetler, Austin Wetherington, Blake Wetherington, and Keith Wetherington. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Kristen Brugger, Allison Dublin, and Ashley Shetler.
