Billie Joe “Captain BJ” Lang, age 83 of Metropolis, IL, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Billie Joe worked on the river his entire life and retired off the Marquette at age 80. He was the most loving and hardest-working man ever.

Billie Joe is survived by his son, Bobby Lang; grandchildren, Lincoln Lang, Peyton Lang, and KonYea Lang; great grandchildren, Noah, Hudson and Wyatt Lang.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lang; and daughter, Jodi Lang.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12 noon on Tuesday, July 14th at the funeral home.
