IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Benito C.
Bajuyo
April 28, 1938 – May 9, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, doctor, and friend, Dr. Benito Bajuyo who died peacefully at the age of 87. Born and raised in the Philippines, he carried with him a spirit of perseverance, humility, and service that defined his entire life.
At 28, he began his journey as a physician in the United States, a calling that would span decades and touch countless lives. He practiced medicine with compassion, precision, and unwavering dedication. For him, being a doctor was never just a profession; it was an opportunity to serve, to listen, and to make a difference in the lives of others. His story was one of quiet resilience and enduring faith. Leaving his homeland to pursue a dream, he built a life marked by hard work and care. He faced challenges with grace.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years who stood beside him through all the joys and changes that life brought their way. Benito met Barbara when he was a new resident doctor and she a registered nurse in Canton, Illinois. Married in 1972, they moved to Metropolis, Illinois in 1975 when he began working at Massac Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Bajuyo was a man of wisdom, patience, and gentle strength. He found joy in providing for the education of relatives and priests, studying history and medicine, and spending time with loved ones. The warmth of his heart shaped the lives around him, and his presence brought calm and comfort to many.
Though he is no longer with us, the impact of his life continues in the memories and lessons he leaves with us. We are grateful for his generosity and service to his community and family.
He will be deeply missed. In keeping with his wishes, private visitations have been held for his family. If you would like to honor Dr. Bajuyo's memory, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Crosscatholic.org Medical Missions to support healing and share hope with those in need.
