Barbara Shappard, 68 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Pell Cemetery with Bro. Justin Wolfe officiating. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Barbara was a retired teacher’s aide from Joppa Head Start. She was a loving and devoted wife to her Jr. High sweetheart, Gary, until his passing in 2018, mother and grandmother.

Barbara is survived by her son, Michael Shappard; two grandchildren, Madison Shappard and Justice Lewis; sister, Jane Baccus; brothers, Lou Terry (Lisa), Ray Terry, and Tom Terry (Teresa); many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Betty Terry; husband of 40 years, Gary Shappard; son, David Shappard; sister, Vicki Thompson; and brothers, Dale Terry and Joe Terry.
