Barbara Kay McDuffee, age 54, of Metropolis, IL went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 peacefully at her residence surrounded by family and dear friends. She was born on November 28, 1962 in Wilmington, Delaware to Reverend Gary and Kathy (Ellsworth) McCarty. Barbie was the eldest of three children. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis, IL. With her family often moving for ministry opportunities, Barbie made Metropolis her home where she married Terry McDuffee. She lived and breathed for her son. During her final days, Barbie had been struggling with COPD and congestive heart failure. Her spirit was never dampened even through her struggles. She was a wonderful friend to anyone she encountered. Barbie is survived by her son, Gary Daniel McDuffee; two brothers, Gary Brian McDuffee and wife Edie and Stephen McCarty and wife Susan; four nieces, Melanie McCarty, Heather Frye, Amanda McCarty and Brianna McCarty. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and in-laws, Carl Jr. and Rebene McDuffee. Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
