Alta Rose Baldwin Burlingame, of Metropolis, Illinois formerly of Beaumont, TX went to the next chapter in her life to live with her heavenly father, family members, friends, and her beloved pets. Alta was born on March 30, 1937 and passed at 1:35 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Pell Cemetery. Rev. Mike Hardison will officiate. Rose is survived by her brother, Richard Baldwin and wife Liz of Fort Worth, TX; a nephew, Gary Baldwin of Panama City, FL; 5 great nephews and 2 great nieces; many special friends including Kathy and Steve Jones and Linda Roberts all of Metropolis, IL. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Ross Oscar and Alta Irene (Venners) Baldwin; husband, Horace "Pete" Burlingame; son, Harvey Joe "Bo" Burlingame; brothers, Charles Ross Baldwin and Billy Joe Baldwin. Rose was known by her friends as having a kind heart for animals. She had been a volunteer with Project Hope and had opened her home to several rescue dogs. In 2001, she and her husband also served as spokespersons for the Heart and Lung Rehabilitation Center at Lourdes Hospital. Rose enjoyed life to its fullest and always liked to always give hugs and smiles which lightened the room. She will be missed by those who knew her, so for now we will feel comfort that she is "Just out walking her dog." Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 12 noon to 2 pm at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. Memorials may be made to Project Hope, P.O. Box 125, Metropolis, Illinois 62960 or the humane society of your choice. Pallbearers will be Marcus Helton, Tom Mittendorf, Steve Jones, Brayden Kilmurray, Justin Wolfe, and Mike Helton.
