Alma Guthrie Dillard, 90, formerly of Metropolis, died Sunday, September 21, 2014, in Searcy, Arkansas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Ron Gulley officiating. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.Alma was born in Tamms, Illinois, on October 7, 1923, to Claude and Allie Hubbard. She was one of five children, all of whom have preceded her in death. She married Stanley Guthrie in August, 1941, and they were happily married until his death in March of 2000. Alma is survived by one daughter, Joyce Guthrie McClary, and son-in-law, Richard, of Phoenix, Arizona. In 1956, the Guthries moved from Metropolis, Illinois, to Arizona, where they owned several businesses and were active members of the Camelback Church of Christ in Phoenix. In 2002, Alma married Jack Dillard from Tempe, Arizona, and they relocated to Searcy, Arkansas, to be near his children and grandchildren. They were members of the College Church of Christ in Searcy. Alma is survived by her husband, Jack, and his children, Debby (John) Hewitt, Carol (Gary) Sparks, Patti (Joe) White, and Glenn (Susan) Dillard, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Alma had a great smile and loved life. Many will miss her laughter; even as her health failed in recent years, she always looked on the bright side and trusted in the Lord to look after her.A memorial service is planned for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, in the chapel at Powell Funeral Home on West Beebe Capps Expressway in Searcy.Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.
