Alice Owens, age 86 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 11:12 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis. Rev. Jon Cockrel will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Alice retired from Central School where she worked as the Secretary and Librarian. She was a lifelong member of the Metropolis First United Methodist Church, where she served in Methodist Women, Thursday Morning Prayer Circle, and Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Massac County Homemakers and Massac Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary. Alice is survived by her husband of 67 years, James F. Owens of Metropolis, IL; daughters, Deborah Marsh and husband Robert of Syracuse, NY, Janice Wilson and husband Wayne of New Orleans, LA, Karen Heisner and husband Terry of Metropolis, IL, and Kim Cunningham and husband Jeff of Metropolis, IL; 9 grandchildren, Sarah Marsh Szotek and husband Paul, Derek Marsh and wife Kimberly, Justin Marsh, Adrienne Wilson Giacalone and husband James, Meredith Wilson Blanque and husband Jonathan, Joshua Heisner and wife Andrea, Heather Heisner Funderburk and husband James, Brittney Heisner, and Madison Cunningham; 9 great grandchildren, Carson and Cooper Szotek, Cohen, Holden, and Tenley Marsh, Rocco and Drake Giacalone, Owen and Kellen Heisner; 3 step great grandchildren, Carly, Beck, and Ava Funderburk; sister, Betty Halcom of Metropolis; several nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ruth Anna (Walter) Peebles and her brother, Dale Peebles. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 10 am to 11 am at the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis.
