Stewart McDearmon Obituary
Stewart "Mutt" McDearmon, age 86, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Metropolis with Rev. Keith Tilford officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Mr. McDearmon or "Mutt" as he was more commonly known, was a member and elder of the First Christian Church in Metropolis and retired from Allied Chemical. He had a love for sports, including golf, basketball, football or anything his grandchildren were playing. He was an outdoorsman and was involved in youth league sports for many years. He was a referee and an honorary member of the Illinois High School Athletic Association. He was an avid pool player and a member of the BCA National Pool League. He was referred to as a "legend" by many in the local area. His outstanding skills as a pool player was widely recognized. He won numerous pool tournaments locally and nationally. His love for pool was an inspiration to others and he was always willing to coach the fundamentals of the game.
Mutt is survived by one son, Randall McDearmon and wife Joanne of Metropolis; five grandchildren, Ryan McDearmon and wife Kristen, Travis McDearmon and wife Julie, Melissa McDearmon, Eric McDearmon and Zachary McDearmon; four great grandchildren, Cole McDearmon, Conner McDearmon, Marcus Flanagan, Nathan Flanagan; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira McDearmon and Noreta Stewart; wife Electa McDearmon; one son, Michael McDearmon and brother, Ira "Buggs" McDearmon.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund 420 Catherine Street Metropolis, IL 62960.
