Paul Bill Reineking

Mr. Paul Bill Reineking, 98, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Misty Meadows Assisted Living.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at St. John's Church, located at 6201 Waldo Church Road in Metropolis with Rev. Jeff Bremer and Rev. Ron Ruggles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Reineking attended Bethlehem School through sixth grade until his father needed him on the farm. By the time he was a teenager, his father decided to sell the farm, so he went to work for other farmers. Paul Bill was drafted into the Army in 1941 and was eventually sent to Canton Island near the Phillipines in the Pacific where he spent a little over two years. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was the oldest living World War II veteran in Massac County.

After serving in the Army, Paul Bill married Viola Hilgeman in January 1946 and they were happily married for 42 years until her passing in 1988. He was employed at Pansing's Furniture Store for many years. He laid carpet and linoleum for many customers and also helped to set up and service oil stoves for heating homes. He was a member of St. John's Church who was always ready to lend a helping hand for many years.

Paul Bill is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Emma (Meinders) Reineking; wife, Viola; silbings, Herbert Reineking, Sophia Stratemeyer, Anna Wilkins, Joe Reineking, Gilbert Reineking, and Beatrice Kruger.

Visitation will be held from 9am until the funeral hour at 11am at the St. John's Church on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.

Memorials may be given in Paul Bill's name to Hoyleton Children's Home Foundation 325 North Main Street Holyeton, IL 62803-0218.

Arrangements are entrusted to Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis.
