Larry Schneider Obituary

Larry LaVelle Schneider, 68, of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away on March 16, 2017, at Lourdes Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky.

Larry was born in Paducah, Kentucky to Clarence LaVelle and Violet (Armstrong) Schneider on June 4, 1948. He attended Metropolis Community High School with the graduating class of 1966. He went on to earn several degrees and professional certifications including Environmental and Civil Engineering from Murray State University. He was a member of the American Society of Professional Engineers, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, and Plumber and Pipefitters Local 160. Larry was President and CEO of Massac Environmental Technologies, Inc. and the manufacturing company American Metrecz, Inc.

Larrry was a devoted husband, dad, PaPa, and friend. He had a passion for the game of baseball and loved playing the game. He also loved playing basketball and spent many afternoons practicing, on the backyard court, with his children. He coached several of his childrens basketball, baseball and softball teams winning Nationals, State, and many other Championships. Many of the lessons he taught on the court and field were applicable to happiness and success in life. He enjoyed attending sporting events and watching games with family and friends. His favorite teams were the St.Louis Cardinals, and the UK Wildcats. Many games were watched with Adam right by his side.

Larry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ and knew that He lived. He loved his family and taught them the importance of following the Savior's example and that we would one day live together with Him.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence LaVelle Schneider and Violet (Armstrong) Schneider.

Larry is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Mary Grace (Riggio) Schneider of Metropolis, his four children Rachael (Schneider) Coakley and husband Price of Metropolis, Sarah (Schneider) McCraw and husband Rick of Metropolis, Lucas Schneider and wife Katie (Harper) of St. Louis, MO, and Adam Schneider of Metropolis. He was also blessed with ten grandchildren, Jessica Coakley, Lauren Coakley, Madalynn Coakley, Cali McCraw, Elise Coakley, Mavaney Schneider, Lydia McCraw, Adelaide Schneider, Lyla Schneider, and Hayden McCraw. He is also survived by one brother, Bradley Schneider, two nieces and several cousins and family.

Visitation and funeral were held on March 18, 2017 at Aikins Farmer Funeral Home with Bishop Ken Woods officiating and eulogy given by Lucas Schneider. Burial followed at Massac Memorial Gardens in Metropolis.

Pallbearers were Lucas Schneider, Adam Schneider, Price Coakley, Rick McCraw, Tim Reagan, Ken Woods, Anthony Harper, Steve Nordstrom, and Frank Henson. Honorary pallbearers were Brad Schneider, Robert Van Schneider, Danny Schneider, Doug Coakley, Don Harris, and David Schneider.

Memorial donations may be made to Adam's Way in care of City National Bank, 2070 East 5th Street, Metropolis, IL 62960.

Our family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Staton and all doctors, nurses, and hospice staff at Lourdes Hospital who assisted and helped our family during this time. Our family would also like to thank all family and friends who reached out through visits, memorials, cards, food, prayers, phone calls and texts, which all provided comfort to each of us.
