Mr. William Virgil Hargan, age 79 of Metropolis, Illinois formerly of Mounds, Illinois passed away at 2:40 am on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Mike Shearer officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Virgil retired as a manager from Country Companies Insurance, was a member of Powers United Methodist Church, and loved to fly his airplanes. We are so happy he was able to have his dream come true.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Younkin Hargan; daughters, Debbie Wessel, Amy Sawyers, and Tonya Stoll; sons, Jeff (Lisa) Hargan and Shawn (Christy) Hargan; grandchildren, Olivia Hargan, Malinda (Sam) Neihoff, Memry (Cody) Davis, William (Sarah) Wessel, Mason (Madison) Stoll, Amber Root, Tara Root, Kristiana Hargan, and Jamie Sawyers; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Lavern Brown; several nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Loal and Lora Johnson Hargan; sister, Rosemary Martin; brothers, Bobby, Wayne, Loal, and Harold Hargan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 10 am until 1 pm at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in Virgil’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Music will be provided by Wanda Strubinger, Pianist; Logan Libby and Donna Libby, Soloists.
Pallbearers will be Mike Reynolds, Cody Davis, Doug Hargan, Sam Neihoff, Dalton Root, and Skyler Ratliff.
