Mrs. Verna L. Gurley, age 91 of Metropolis, IL passed away at 6:03 am on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis. Rev. David Deem will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Verna was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Metropolis.Verna is survived by a daughter, Theresa Jones and husband Gary of Olive Branch, MS; son, Gene Gurley and wife Linda of Metropolis, IL; 5 grandchildren, Candace VanderBoegh and husband Kevin of Paducah, KY, Hunter Richardson and wife Shannon of Oxford, MS, Ben Richardson of Olive Branch, MS, McKenzie Bruer and husband Jeremy of Arlington, KY, and Ashlee Busclas and husband Marty of Maryville, IL; 8 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lawanda Farris of Metropolis, IL, Freda Fuqua of Marion, OH, Mary Collins of Bruce, MS; 2 brothers, Lloyd Fick of Metropolis, IL, John Fick of Vienna, IL; several nieces and nephews, including 1 special niece, Linda Sielbeck of Grand Chain, IL.Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Lydia (Hinners) Fick; husband of 57 years, Walter "Buck" Gurley; brother, Ed Fick.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 11 am until 1 pm at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis.Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Greater IL Chapter, 8430 W.
