Marjorie Peitzmeier Obituary

Mrs. Marjorie Jean Hare Peitzmeier, age 84, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on December 22, 2019 at home with her daughter, Angie, by her side.

Marjorie Peitzmeier was born August 8, 1935 in Macomb, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Peitzmeier, and her parents, Jesse Adolphus (Dolph) Hare and Mary Ruth Hare. She married Dennis Peitzmeier on February 2, 1957 in Macomb, IL. She lived in Macomb, IL during her childhood. She attended the Brickyard School, a one-room country school from 1st through 7th grade, then continued her education in the consolidated county schools. She was active in sports during high school and graduated from Macomb Senior High School in 1953. In Macomb, she was employed by McDonough District Hospital and the purchasing department of Western Illinois University. In 1981, she moved to Metropolis, IL, where Dennis was promoted to a supervisor for General Telephone (GTE). In Metropolis, she taught quilting, and made cherished quilts for her daughters and grandchildren. For many years, she provided hospitality, friendship, room and board to those who came to the area for the Paducah Quilt Show.

Her love of family was more important to her than anything else. She blessed her family with her love and always encouraged them to love each other. She was most proud of the fact that her family is full of those who have chosen to create lives of service. This will be her legacy.

Survivors include her five daughters, Maria Montalvo and her husband, Greg Montalvo, of Macomb, IL; Susan Romano and her husband Michael Romano of Northwood, NH; Karen Peitzmeier of Ashland, Oregon; Julia Rader and her husband Patrick Rader of Woodbridge, VA, and Angela Lamb and her husband John Lamb of Metropolis, IL; 10 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, with whom she loved corresponding. She enjoyed sharing family history and stories of how the Hare family survived the Great Depression.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Michaela Romano, and one step-grandchild; siblings, Anna Icenogle, Lucy (Toots) Lewis, John Hare, Jesse (Jack) Hare, Mary Ruth Rexroat, Martha Yerkes, James (Jim) Hare, and Lee Hare.
