Howard A. Sutton Sr., 87, of 821 Broadway, Metropolis, IL, passed on April 5, 2013 at Western Baptist Hospital after a long illness.Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Broadway Church of Christ 808 Broadway Metropolis, IL. Brother William D. Hensley will officiate. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis. Mr. Sutton was born August 20, 1925 in Mermet, IL. He worked at Baker Construction, Portland Cement, Mermet Lake Refuge, and Shawnee Development before retiring. He was a Mason. Howard became a member of Broadway Church of Christ on September 1, 2007. Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing, CB radios, gardening, and restoring antique cars.Howard is survived by his wife Helen (Bradford) Sutton, 6 children, Audrey Sutton of Las Vegas, NV, Cathy Sutton of Atlanta, GA, Carolyn Sutton of Metropolis, IL, Howard Sutton, Jr. of Mermet, IL, Bessie Sutton of Bowie, MD, and Patricia Autman of Kankakee, IL; one sister, Christine Sutton of Metropolis, IL; 5 grandsons, Brian Houston and wife Sonia of Las Vegas, NV, Michael Ray Sutton and wife Michelle of Metropolis, IL, Austin Eskridge and wife Carly of Metropolis, IL, Christopher Brown of Mermet, IL, and Anthony Sutton of Mayfield, KY; 6 granddaughters, Nanette Knight and husband Dave of Las Vegas, NV, Julie Sanchez and husband Juan of Satellite Beach, FL, Kimberly Cleveland of Upper Marlboro, MD, Melissa Roundtree of Metropolis, IL, Kami Turner and husband Rob of Hendersonville, TN, and Niyathi Naidu of Forestville, MD; and a host of great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ocie (Smith) Sutton; one son, Tommy Sutton; 3 brothers, Charlie Sutton, George Paul Sutton, and Leon Sam Sutton; one sister, Earnestine Sutton.Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the Broadway Church of Christ.Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
