Gladys Lorene Holder

Gladys Lorene Holder,76, died Tuesday, July 30, 2019. She was born August 6, 1942 in Metropolis, IL to Reva and Winster Dunn. She was very close to her brothers and sisters Phyllis Pauline Dunn, Wayne Dunn, Lawrence Dunn, Linda Darnell, Lee Dunn and Alan Dunn. Growing up in Reevesville she loved school and loved to play softball. At age 16, she married Robert LaRoe. They had 3 children together, Teresa Saldutti, Eugene LaRoe and Jerry LaRoe. She later married Jesse Holder and they moved to Santa Barabara together where they had 2 children, Tina Holder and Cheryl Holder. She had 3 step children Patrick Holder, Lisa Holder and Scott Holder. Her children gave her 8 grandchildren, Candace Brixey, Jennifer Logan, Shaelene LaRoe, Stephanie Angell, Ryan Saldutti, Chelsea LaRoe, Mattie LaRoe and Carson LaRoe. Eight great grandchildren, Amber Stover, Cailey Stover, Patience Brixey, Ayden Angell, Thomas Logan, Avery Brixey, Charlotte Saldutti and James Logan, and one great-great grandson, Hagen Smith. Though they never had any children together, she also wed and divorced Lee McCandless of Metropolis. She adored all of her children and grandchildren and was adored back.

Gladys loved music and to dance. She would clap and sing along any time any kind of music played. She never sat still; she was always going somewhere. She loved babies and couldn’t pass a baby without stopping to love it. She was always seen smiling and had a larger than life personality. She was so forgiving and would do anything for anybody. She talked to everyone and always had a way of making others laugh and smile. She was close with so many people and will be so incredibly missed by all of us. It brings us peace to know that she finally gets to return home to her Heavenly Father that she loved so much.

Her services will be held Monday, August 12th, 2019 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home, 70 Jon Street, Metropolis, IL 62960. Visitation will be from 10 am until the service at 12 noon. A graveside service will immediately follow. She will be laid to rest at Metropolis Memorial Gardens at 2824 North Avenue. Reception to follow at her son Jerry LaRoe’s house, 69 Bullock Lane, Metropolis IL, 62960.
