Gerald “Jerry” Ray Stepter, 79 of Metropolis, passed away on Thursday, May 17th, 2018, at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah, KY, with his family by his side.
Mr. Stepter was an employee at Allied Chemical, owned and operated a fuel truck for Mobil Oil Company, and owned B & S Bus Service with his son for 36 years. They provided transportation for Massac County and Joppa Schools.
He was a member of Twelve Oaks Baptist Church.
In his spare time, he was successful at racing standardbred horses. He enjoyed years of owning and racing sprint cars, where he earned the nickname “Oz.” His most legendary car being the Gold Deuce.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Linda Stepter of Metropolis; two children, Tammie (Lynn) Wehrmeier of Brookport and Kevin Stepter of Metropolis; three grandchildren. Staci (Charlie) Barger, Joshua (Samantha) Wehrmeier, and Karissa (Eric) Paulk; four great grandchildren, Lucas, Tyler, Dawson, and Avy.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, William Stepter and Lillian Eckenberg Stepter Bradley; and his brother William Allen Stepter.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, May 20th, 2018 at Aikins-Farmer Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Pastor Joshua Wehrmeier and Pastor Brandt Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens in Metropolis, Illinois. Friends may visit the family from 6pm to 8pm on Saturday, May 19th, 2018 at Aikins-Farmer Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
