Annetta M. (Wood) Yates

Annetta M. Yates (Wood), age 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Metropolis, IL in the early morning hours of Friday, May 10, 2019 with her beloved son & his family by her side.

Annetta was retired from Massac Memorial Hospital after 40 years of devoted service as a Ward Clerk. Throughout her life she made many friendships that she cherished. Annetta was an avid traveler, lover of books & history, a seasonal member of the Market House Theater, and concert enthusiast, particularly enjoying the annual Duquoin State Fair. She was rarely seen without a cup of coffee and a newspaper or crossword nearby. Her favorite travels were her times spent in Hardy, AR camping & trout fishing, and her trips to Louisiana to visit her youngest son John. Annetta had many interests, but her main love was her family.

 Annetta was of Christian faith and a member of Hillerman Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, May 13, 2019 in the Liberty Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her late son John.

Annetta is survived by her eldest son, Charles Johnson of Joppa and wife Linda, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Annetta was a strong willed, independent woman who will be deeply missed & hard to forget by everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Project Hope No Kill Animal Shelter PO Box 125, Metropolis, IL, 62960.
