Jesse H. Turner, Jr. age 85 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 6:15 am on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital. Jesse was born on February 8, 1939 in Magnolia, Mississippi, the son of Jesse and Lesteen (McGhee) Turner, Sr.
Jesse worked in the coal mine as a heavy equipment operator and worked road
construction on bridges with E.T. Simmons. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1825 and Broadway Church of Christ. Some of his favorite things were working, carpentry, remodeling, and mowing yards.
Jesse is survived by his wife of 20 years, Linda (Kindle) Turner; daughters, Sherry Turner, Tiffany Benson (Fred), and Jennifer Edwards (Jason); step daughters, Neesha Sherrill (Dwuan), Christi Anderson (Matt), and Nikki Reed; 22 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, McVey Turner, Lloyd Turner (Pearl), Charles Turner (Sandra), and Ernest Turner; sisters, Helen Dawson, Betty Lou Womack, Irma Hall, Grace Turner and Gwen Merriweather; a host of nieces and nephews.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Turner Sr. and Lesteen (McGhee) Turner; 1st wife, Delsie (Sutton) Turner; daughter, Debra Queen; granddaughters, Augusta Turner and Danielle Campbell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 11 am until 12 noon at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Brother Eric Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Anderson, Dwuan Sherrill, Fred Benson, Brandon Williams, Blake Burkeen, and Alex Burkeen.
