Virginia Mizell Obituary
Funeral services for Virginia A. Mizell will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home. Rev. Glenn Coram will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Mizell passed away at 9:30 pm on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Mizell was a long time member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Ullin High School, an honors graduate of Paducah Junior College as well as Murray State University. She worked at the Good Luck Glove Factory, was a substitute teacher in Metropolis for six years, and retired from Lourdes Hospital Outpatient Department.
Mrs. Mizell was a member and treasurer for many years of the Massac County Senior Citizen's Club, the Senior Citizen's Council N.F.P. Organization, and the Jubilee Generation at the Immanuel Baptist Church.
She had a great love for unwanted animals and spent the last years of her life taking care of dogs and cats.
Mrs. Mizell is survived by her son, Jim Mizell and wife Pam of Lone Oak, KY; her daughter, Judy Nickles and husband Larry of New Smyrna Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Lynn Curry and husband Jeff of Mason City, IL, James "Buck" Mizell and wife Jamie of Nashville, TN, Jon Mizell of Lone Oak, KY, Scottie Coovert of Lone Oak, KY, and Deana Beth Harper and husband Brian of Benton, KY; six great-grandchildren, Rachel Curry, Cody Curry, RJ Mizell, Brooks Mizell, Mackenzie Harper, and Weston Harper; four nieces and two nephews.
Mrs. Mizell was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar "Red" Mizell; her parents, Clyde F. and Nellie Young Stephens; one brother, Harold Stephens; four half-brothers, William, Otto, Edward, and Clifford Stephens; her foster parents, Mark and Matilda Sneed; a foster sister, Dorothy Whitehead; one niece.
Friends and relatives may call from 10am to 11:30am prior to the funeral service on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church, 1119 Market Street, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.
