Mrs. Edna Lee Krueger, age 86, of Metropolis, IL, passed away at 9:08 a.m. on Monday, January 02, 2017 at Baptist Health Paducah with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Timothy A. Bean officiating. Burial will follow in I.O.O. F. Cemetery in Metropolis.
Edna started working at Hedden Cleaners in Metropolis before marrying and starting a family. After the children were of school age she went to work at Speckman's Jewelry in Metropolis, where she was a familiar face for many years. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and had previously been active in the Alter Guild and helping with Vacation Bible School. She volunteered with Girl Scouts for many years, helping with her daughters troop activities, and was also a member of the Good Samaritan Auxiliary of Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She was very talented at flower arranging, sewing, crafts and crocheting. She has crocheted a countless number of afghans, which many friends and family members have received throughout the years as gifts for special occasions. She also stitched many of the Chrismon ornaments that still annually decorate the Christmas tree at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Edna is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lester Krueger; two daughters, Stacey May and husband Steve from Metropolis and Brenda Whitaker and husband Chris from Anna, IL; four grandchildren, Aaron May and wife Sarah, and Ashley Jill Parr all of Metropolis, Cody Whitaker and wife Katie from Cobden, IL, and David Whitaker and wife Carla from Jonesboro, IL; eight great grandchildren, Lauryn and Logan Parr, Landon May, Laila, Evertt and Boston Whitaker, and Cole and Ella Whitaker; one sister, Shirley Lewis and husband Jim; one brother, Charlie Peebles and wife Tina all of Metropolis; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Farris of Metropolis and JoAnn Kruger from Anderson, IN; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gladys Peebles; one sister, Dorothy Dassing, and one infant brother.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 5 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis are in charge of arrangements.
