Bobbie Jean Lowery

Bobbie Jean Lowery, age 84 of Joppa, Illinois passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis. Rev. David Wright will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Bobbie was a homemaker while her four children were at home. She took a job as a cook at the Joppa-Maple Grove School District after the death of her husband in 1974. Bobbie's love for cooking was apparent throughout the twenty plus years she gave to the school. Bobbie took much pride in the food that she prepared for the students. She often recalled many wonderful memories of the students and staff that she encountered and cared for over the years. Bobbie also put her heart and soul into the food that she cooked for her family. At meals and family gatherings, Bobbie made sure that everyone was well fed and attended to. She was always the last person to take a seat at the table. Bobbie loved and was well-loved by her family. She shared many memories growing up in Metropolis with her two sisters and two brothers. She enjoyed spending time and visiting with her family and took great interest in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She also looked forward to frequent calls from her brother, Frank. Bobbie's hair was rarely less than immaculate; she delighted in her weekly trips to the beauty shop where she made many lifelong friends. Bobbie was a faithful member of Joppa Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her church family and relished her time spent with her close friends in the adult ladies Sunday school class. Bobbie will be remembered as a godly woman who smiled often and affectionately joked with those that she loved. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
Bobbie is survived by her children, Vickie Stephens and husband Mike of Joppa, IL, Suzanne Souders and husband Mark of Metropolis, IL, Mike Lowery and wife Marla of Joppa, IL; grandchildren, Matt Lowery and wife Nicole, Nate Stephens and wife Val, Mandy Greer and husband Dave, Molly Stephens, Micah Lowery and wife Ashlin, Casey Souders and wife Allison, Andrea Travis, Natalie Wilson and husband Lance, and Austin Lowery; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Frank Williams and wife Rachel; several nieces and nephews.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Jennie Rose (McCandless) Williams; husband, Nathaniel Foreman "Mike" Lowery; son, Frankie Lowery; brother, Richard Williams; sisters, Patricia Barwick and Barbara Laird.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from noon until the funeral hour at 2pm at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given in Bobbie's name to the Joppa Baptist Church Building Fund PO Box 276 Joppa, IL 62953.
