Mrs. Billie Joyce Grace Bentson, 92, of Paducah,KY, died on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Parkview Nursing Home in Paducah, KY. Billie was the second of six children born in Metropolis to Myrtle Amelia May Grace and Floyd Vivian Grace.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Metropolis with Rev. Timothy A. Bean officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bentson was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Metropolis and a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Billie was employed by Paducah Dry Goods, Magnavox, Massac Memorial Hospital and Walmart. She had a "green thumb" with a knack of growing vegetables and flowers. Billie enjoyed making and giving away treats to family and friends such as hot tamales, bourbon balls and buckeyes and needlepointing which she took up in the early 1950's. She was proficient in sewing, making clothing, wedding veils, bridesmaid's dresses, curtains, and a family favorite-satin pillowcases. Reading romance novels and going on family trips were some of her favorite activities and Billie was known for sending cards to everyone she knew in her beautiful Palmer-style penmanship.
Billie is survived by her daughter, Jimmie Patterson and husband Chuck of Paducah; son, Darryl Bentson and wife Becky of Paducah; three granddaughters, Jennifer Pidcock of Calvert City, KY, Kristen Amaya (Gustavo) of Metropolis, and Kelly Simmons (Tommy) of Paducah; five great grandchildren, Erin Pidcock and Andrew Pidcock of Calvert City, Connor Simmons of Paducah, Gustavo Amaya of Metropolis and Ava Simmons of Paducah; one sister, Willa Rae Jacobs of Metropolis; 3 sisters-in-law, Martha Grace of Metropolis, Shirley Grace of Murray, KY, and Joann Milan of Lakeville, MN; one brother-in-law, Roger Bentson and wife Diane of San Antonino, TX; seven nieces, Teresa Grace of Metropolis, Velda Miller of Murray, KY, Lesi Owens of Metropolis, Brenda Mizell (Danny) of Metropolis, Geni Whitehair (Jimmy) of Hopkinsville, KY, Karen Sullivan (Jerry) of Golconda, and Adelle McBride (Kerry) of Metropolis; four nephews, Gary Owens, Ricky Grace (Bonnie), Richie Jacobs (Julie), and Duane Buhrman (Janice) all of Metropolis; several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willfred Earnest Bentson; two brothers, Floyd Genell Grace and Robert Lewis Grace; two sisters, Mary Lee Owens and Carole Sue Buhrman.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 until the funeral hour at 11am on Friday, March 2nd, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be given in Billie's name to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church 520 Ferry Street, Metropolis, IL 62960.
