Mrs. Alyce Walker, age 91, of Metropolis, IL, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Lourdes Hospital of complications due to a heart attack. She was of the Lutheran faith. Lee was born in Massac County of October 13, 1925 to Oscar and Ollie Buddenbaum. She remained in Massac County until her sophomore year of high school when she moved with her family to Detroit, MI. After graduating high school, Lee worked as Office Manager for Top Hat Co., a fast food chain in the Detroit area. She married Ralph William Walker on December 12, 1964. Upon their retirement they moved to Metropolis and purchased East End Tavern- operating it for several years before they sold it. Lee had a sister in law that she was very close to. After her brother's death, Lee and Eleanor were inseparable until Eleanor's death.
Lee is survived by her nephews, Laurence John Buddenbaum and wife Judi of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Warren Canfield and wife Jennifer of Lake Port, CA; niece Vada Bullock and husband William of Sun City, AZ; step daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Schelkun and husband Mike of Rochester, NY; and "adopted" grandson, Butch Jones and wife, Gina Dunning of Metropolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ollie Buddenbaum; husband, Ralph William Walker; sister, Freda Lucille Canfield; brothers, Cornelius Henry Buddenbaum and John Rudolph Buddenbuam; sister in law, Eleanor Buddenbaum; an infant nephew, William Buddenbaum; and one niece, Vivian Bullock.
Arrangements were entrusted to Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis.
Private services were previously held.
